We had a great trip to Italy (Venice, Florence, and Rome). Luckily, I'd seen Rome before. I got some sort of stomach bug the last night in Florence. The next day, I had to drag myself to a beautiful castle just outside of Rome that had been built in the 1100's. And all I got to see of it was the bathroom and the bedroom. That was teh suck. My fever was up over 101 at one point.

I pretty much missed opening weekend of the NFL. But I was sick anyway. And my Texans got blown out 38-17. Which was teh suck.

Then I had to fly back to the states with my stomach in revolt. When we got back home, there was cat puke all over our house. Our cat-sitter sucked for a lot of reasons (like apparently not cleaning the litter box and not following our directions for how to feed our cats) but she didn't think anything was seriously wrong when a cat throws up all over the house. She cleaned up a little bit of it, got tired, and wrote us a note saying she was sorry and then left. The cat should have gone to the vet. Some of the vomit was an olive green and with cats, that's bile. That's bad.

We cleaned up all the puke still not understanding what was going on but we were very worried. We didn't know if one cat was sick or if they were all sick. But we were worried about one cat, Aurora, because she didn't seem very happy to see us. We slept for a couple of hours and then woke up and realized that Aurora was the only one throwing up. So we took her to the vet and left her there.

The vet told us that there was good news and bad news. The bad news was that Aurora had SWALLOWED A STONE. The good news was that Aurora had swallowed a ROCK... and ROCKs show up very clearly in X-Rays. So they knew just where they needed to cut her open to be able to extract the rock. We were able to bring her home, lock her in the gym, and control it so that she didn't have anything to jump on (I tipped the bench over) and so we could feed her different food from the other cats. And we didn't need her fighting her siblings.

After about 10 days, she was feeling good enough for us to let her out. And I had gotten to the point where I could pretty much eat normal food, too. yay.

Then LAST NIGHT, we get a call right when Audrey's about to go to bed telling us that the stable where we keep our horses is on fire and one of our horses, Montana, has a broken leg. Now, Montana is an older horse. He used to be a champion barrel racing horse and he's still very fast and very good running barrels. But he's also really good with kids and inexperienced riders. He doesn't spook very easy and he's very laid back... unless you ask him to go, and then he goes. Everyone loves Montana. We actually don't have to pay board for him because they use him as a lesson horse.

Audrey is beside herself. Our two other horses (Snowy who's a rodeo type of horse and then Lolly who's a reining horse) stay in the stables and if it burns down, there's a possibility that they died in the fire.

We jump in the car and headed out to Aubrey, TX.

Then over a series of calls, the story changes, and morphs, and then changes. And it turns out there was no fire. It had just looked like a fire because of all the flashing lights from the ambulances and police cars. And Montana hadn't broken his leg. He'd thrown a rider (which is very odd and weird because Montana doesn't buck unless you do something very stupid). The rider was a little girl... who wasn't supposed to be riding Montana, whose father had put her onto Montana without permission... and apparently there had been fireworks involved. The fireworks spooked Montana and the little girl jerked back hard on his reins. And Montana reared. The girl fell off and broke her leg. And then had to be life-flighted out to the hospital.

Whew.

And I won't even go into Lolly lacerating her eye because that was several weeks ago.

Do we really need pets?
